Insulation
Facade batts of mineral wool
Plastic-based foam insulation of expanded polystyrene (EPS) and extruded polystyrene (XPS).
When selecting insulation materials, national rules concerning fire must be considered.
For further information, please contact our Technical Service Department.
Fixing dowels
Do not fix dowels until the facade adhesive has completely set, allow at least 24-48 hours.
Application
Surfaces
For use on fixed substrates such as concrete, brickwork, lightweight concrete, and aerated concrete.
Surface preparation
The substrate should be dimensionally stable and free from dust, loose mortar residues, grease, salts, fouling, and other contaminations.
Toothings or depressions should be straightened. Filling and straightening of hollows and unevenness up to 30 mm can be made using Alfix DuraPuds 830.
For straightening with a fully covering coat, max. layer thickness should not exceed 10 mm!
Prime highly absorbent substrates with Alfix PlaneMixPrimer diluted 1:6 with clean Water.
How to use
Add 4.7 – 5.0 litres of clean, cold water per 18 kg powder. Pour water into a clean container and sprinkle the powder in while stirring until a lump-free consistency is obtained. Use mixing drill or concrete mixer. Leave the mixture to rest for a few minutes and remix briefly before use.
Facade insulation boards/batts – uneven surface
Place insulation board onto a stable base with rear side up. Apply DuraPuds 830 adhesive to the board using a steel trowel with a rectangular blade. Apply an even 5 cm wide band of adhesive along all 4 board sides. Observe that the adhesive band is placed approx. 1 cm within outer edge to ensure an adhesive-free jointing edge. Apply 3 dollops the size of a hand in the centre of the board.
Press and fix the board with freshly applied adhesive onto the wall. Boards should be bond laid and placed as tightly together as possible. Adapting pieces should be solid bedded. Against windows and external corners, always use pre-cut right-angled edges. Avoid adhesive on jointing surfaces. At least 50% of each board surface should be covered and in contact with adhesive.
Facade insulation boards/lamellas – even surface
Apply DuraPuds 830 to the entire rear board surface using min 10x10 mm notched trowel. Avoid adhesive on edges.
Press the board with freshly applied adhesive onto the wall. Boards should be bond laid and placed as closely together as possible. Against windows and external corners always use pre-cut right-angled edges. Adhesive coverage should be 100% - i.e. full surface bonding.
Note!
Do not add additional water to render which has begun to set
Exterior work with adhesive render should only take place in dry weather at temperatures between +5ºC and +25ºC, and not in direct sunlight.
If rainy weather or temperatures below +5ºC are forecast, cover facades.
Avoid exterior rendering during the winter season.
Cleaning
Clean residues from tools with water before the mortar sets. Cement-based products harden when mixed with water, hence do not dispose of excess material by pouring into drainage system.
